MODEL LESSON PLAN ON SYNONYMS
Grade 8

Topic: Synonym
Time: 1hour Instructors: Shanice Richardss
Analyze the Learner
30 Students
20 females, 10 males
Age Range: 12-13
All students have garnered the basic knowledge from their GSAT examinations. Reading levels 70% of the class is at the grade 8 reading level. 15% grade 7, the remaining 15% is above average as they are at the grade 9 reading level.
Learning Styles: 100% are linguistic learners, 30% auditory, 50% visual, 20%kinesthetic learners
State Objectives
ü After matching the words that are similar in meaning placed under their desks, students will formulate their own definition of synonyms
ü After watching a Youtube video on synonyms, students will be able to answer questions projected on a Power point.
ü Upon successful completion of the activity, students will create a poster depicting what they have learnt on synonym.

Utilize Media, Materials and Methods
A Youtube video will be used to present information on synonyms, that is definition and examples, to the students.
Multimedia Projector will be used to present PowerPoint on synonyms
The Web 2.0 tool will be used to create the poster on synonym
The 15 computers will be used to create the potters, students will work in pairs.
Social media- facebook, will be used as medium for sharing their poster and for the teacher to evaluate
Require Learner Participation
Introduction (10 minutes)
Teacher will divide the class into two groups, they will look under their desk for a strip of paper. After finding the strip of paper, each student from one side of the class will come and paste their strip of paper, the students from the other side will place the word similar in meaning beside it. This will be in a table format.
Activity (25 minutes)
Students will view a video with information on the topic synonyms, they will be asked the following guided questions.
They will then view an interactive Power Point which will further inform them on synonyms. They will then be required to answer questions from the power point.
Production (25 minutes)
Students will create a Poster in pairs using one of the Microsoft tools, Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher. Create an event and use as many synonyms as possible. They will then upload it to the class’ Facebook page, their classmates will comment and critique.
Evaluate and Revise
Student Performance
Students will be assessed on how well they grasped the topic of synonyms by creating a poster.
The teacher will supervise the students as they create the poster on the computers.
Media Effectiveness
Were the PowerPoint and video presentations useful in teaching the topic and facilitating class discussions?
Was Social Media the ideal resource for additional discussion and participation of the class? Did students find it easy to use? Were students interested in the activity given?Was the online activity closely monitored? Were students able to use the given tool (Web 2.0) to complete their task?
